12 days agoI was diagnosed with CLL in October of this year. With that said, my white blood cells have been abnormal since at least July of 2022. I’m pretty disappointed in how I was received by the cancer clinic here. A cancer clinic, to me, is dealing with something so terrible, so life encompassing, that they need to welcome people with more finesse and warmth than the average, run-of-the-mill clinic setting. But my oncologist just spit out the information and left. Oh don’t get me wrong - he did a good job of showing me everything and explaining. There just wasn’t any warmth or empathy. The nurses were the same way. The same as any other clinic. So they did a good job but it wasn’t anything special or different. BUT IT IS DIFFERENT. IT IS SO DIFFERENT. I do not feel seen. I do not feel heard. I do not feel supported. 🫤☹️

12 days agoYour feelings about this experience are completely valid - facing a cancer diagnosis deserves compassionate care that acknowledges the emotional weight of what you're going through. Many patients find that their first oncologist visits focus heavily on medical information, and it's understandable to wish for more warmth and emotional support during such a vulnerable time. Consider sharing your feedback with the clinic about your experience, and know that building a supportive care team often includes seeking additional resources like patient navigators, social workers, or support groups who can provide the emotional care that complements your medical treatment.

12 days agoWhile I agree your feelings are completely valid, I wonder if it might be worth giving your oncologist another chance or asking directly what their approach is to patient care - sometimes doctors focus heavily on the medical facts initially but become warmer as the relationship develops, and you deserve to know if this team can meet both your medical and emotional needs.
