3 months agoHi. I had half of my tongue replace with my forearm. Talking and eating normal is not back yet. How long does this take to get back to normal?
Accepted Answer
Recovery after tongue reconstruction surgery varies greatly from person to person, and it's completely normal to still be working on speech and eating skills during this healing process. Many people find that connecting with a speech-language pathologist can be incredibly helpful for developing techniques and exercises that support recovery - your medical team can provide guidance on the timeline that's most realistic for your specific situation.

2 months agoHow long has it been since your surgery? That’s a really painful procedure. I only had to have about 1/4 of my tongue reconstructed and it’s been about 5 months. I am just now able to eat without too much pain. My speech is back to normal unless I try to string too many words together. My doctor’s nurse told me a year.

2 months agoHi Kim. Did you have to deal with a lot of extra salvia in your mouth ?

2 months agoHi I also have had the same procedure a year and the half ago. I don’t know if you ever get back to normal. My speech is getting better with some small issues . Eating is still a little problem, don’t know if you ever get your taste back fully. They also removed my saliva glands witch is causing a lot of issues for me with constant dry mouth. Hope everything works out for you. Good luck

2 months agoIts been 1 1/2 years since my operation. The problem with me is they removed all of my bottom teeth and parts of my gums along with 1/2 my tongue. I am told I cannot have implants because of all the radiation I had.

a month agoGood afternoon. I have a question, once your tongue was reconstructed, how long was it before you were able to move it?
