Should I do chemo for stage 3 pancreatic cancer or focus on comfort care?

I am and have stage three pancreatic cancer on the duct that is inoperable because it’s wrapped around an artery. It’s gone to my lymph nodes and my veins. One of my daughters wants me to research treatment. Specifically chemo. She is for it. I am against it. I just wanna be comfortable in the 3 to 6 months I have left. Thoughts?

This is such a deeply personal decision that only you can make, and both perspectives - wanting treatment options and prioritizing comfort - are completely valid. Many people in similar situations find it helpful to have an open conversation with their oncology team about what each path might look like, including quality of life considerations, so they can make the choice that feels right for them. Whatever you decide, this community is here to support you through it.

It’s more accurate to say that I’m unsure. That’s the question.

Chemo treatment is simple, totally painless and may help. My only side effect is lack of energy. Give its try! With my 6-months to a year I’m giving chemo a try.

I also have inoperable because of wrapped around the vein and arteries, but I’m gonna be doing radiation to shrink it some more and hopefully we’ll be able to have the operation. Don’t give up.

Now Stage 4. With no intrepadation I’ll begin a second course of chemo. The actual chemo treatment is totally simple, comfortable, painless and one of the only options we have. I recommend having a port. Radiation is also simple, comfortable and painless taking about 5-minutes. If painless, I’ll give it a try. I turned down having the complex Whipple surgery with a long recovery period. I’m 87, pain free and feel good. Just no energy. Going on a 7-night cruise next week. Live it up! Then new course of chemo starting 4 March.

Don’t give up. I’m in the same situation with stage 4. Told me 3 months also and now entering year 2 of chemo every 2 weeks. Enjoy every minute with your loved ones. Wishing you the best and prayers
