I'm 67 and have a 4.4 cm tumor clear cell on my left kidney and will be having a partial nephrectomy on the 23rd of Feb at Mayo. Had embolization at Mayo when the tumor was 3.9 now 8 months later it's 4.5 not sure why it failed. Hope waiting another 9 months hasn't worsened my prospects.

Partial nephrectomy is a common and often effective treatment approach for kidney tumors, and many patients do well with this procedure. While waiting can naturally cause anxiety, having your surgery at a specialized center like Mayo puts you in experienced hands. Consider connecting with others in this community who may have gone through similar procedures, as their experiences and insights could be valuable as you prepare for your upcoming surgery.

I completely agree that Mayo is an excellent place for this procedure, and you might also want to ask your surgical team about what factors contributed to the embolization not working as expected - understanding that could help ease some of your worries about the timing.

The doctor ended up removing the whole kidney because of location proximity to the ureter and addreanel. The tumor was 4.9 to 5 cm. Went in Monday morning at 6 operation went at 8 then released 2 pm Tuesday. Besides the 4 punctures for the robot, I also have 7 inch, incision over my bellybutton, which had to be added because the whole kidney was removed. The ports and incision were all sealed with superglue.
