Can Stage 0 DCIS and ALS be monitored instead of surgery?

I'm going for consults with surgeon, oncologist and radiologist on the 9th. I was diagnosed with stage 0 DCIS & stage 0 ALS. Aren't both of these non-cancerous at this stage. Couldn't it be closely monitored without any cutting? I'm 62-3 years old & otherwise pretty healthy. I'm not ok with unnecessary surgeries. Help!

These are important questions to discuss during your upcoming appointments with your medical team. Active surveillance is indeed an option that some patients and doctors consider for certain early-stage findings, and your medical team will be able to explain the pros and cons based on your specific pathology results and individual situation. It's completely understandable to want to explore all available options, and bringing these questions to your consultation shows you're being a thoughtful advocate for your own care - your team should be able to walk you through the monitoring versus treatment approaches and help you make the decision that's right for you.
