a year agoHello! 40 years old, diagnosed 7/12, Estrogen+, Progesterone+, HER-, two abnormal lymph nodes. I am waiting for a call any day with the date of my double skin sparing mastectomy with sentinel node biopsy, tissue expanders will be placed, then a treatment plan once I know the results of lymph nodes and tumor oncotype. I am looking for advice post mastectomy as far as bras, pillows, icepacks, etc....links and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Preparing for post-mastectomy recovery is such a thoughtful way to take care of yourself during this time. Many community members have found that front-closure bras without underwire, wedge pillows for comfortable sleeping positions, and soft gel ice packs can make a real difference in comfort levels. This community has wonderful experience with recovery essentials, so hopefully others will share their specific product recommendations and tips that worked best for them.

6 months agoJust had a double mastectomy nipple and skin sparing with reconstruction and implants. Surgical bra and tank tops that have pockets for the drains. Alcohol pad so u can strip the drain tubing. Usually no ice or heat. Lots of pillows, a neck pillow for sure, some kind of incline pillow. A mastectomy pillow. I found all this stuff on Amazon. Hope it helps. Best of luck to you 🙏

6 months agoI have both Velcro and hook type bras that close in front. I prefer the bras with the hooks because they are more adjustable. The Velcro is difficult to align and does not offer as much customization. I bought mine in Israel where I had my surgery from a local woman so I cannot give you a link as her business is hyper local. I use regular thin pillows that I stack depending on how I feel. I bought them at Marshalls before I went to Israel for surgery. I use a pillow case to hold them together. The Israeli doctors advised against using ice so I didn't use it but talk to your team and decide what is right for you. I use topical and oral arnica from Boiron, a well as bromalain, and hypericum as directed on the bottles for swelling, pain, and healing. Best of luck in your healing process.
