How to manage pain after mastectomy and lymph node removal?

I had a mastectomy of the right breast Tuesday and some lymph nodes removed, for additional testing. The pain is pretty intense. Does anyone have any recommendations to help ease the pain and discomfort? I’m also not ready to see myself, thankfully I’m bandaged up really well but mentally I’m not ready.

Recovery from this type of surgery can be challenging both physically and emotionally, and it's completely normal to need time to process everything at your own pace. Many patients find that staying ahead of pain with prescribed medications, using ice packs as directed, gentle movement when cleared by doctors, and focusing on small comfort measures can help during the initial healing phase - though it's always best to check with your medical team about what's right for your specific situation.
