My Experience with DCIS Treatment Options

I was diagnosed with DCIS in August of last year. I found a “calculator “ on the Memorial Sloan Kettering website that was very helpful. Get your pathology report and insert the features of your DcIs into the calculator and it estimates your risk of recurrence with various treatment options. The center i am going to also did a test called Dcision RT that gave u estimated risks of recurrence or of future invasive cancer with and without radiation treatment. I had a lumpectomy and 4 weeks of radiation and i am taking anastrozole for 5 years. The radiation oncologist told me that doing nothing after the lumpectomy was an option but that’s not me. I would rather over treat than under treat.

That calculator is easy to use. Gave me a 2% chance after 5 years & 3% after 10 years. I’ll take that!!!

Excellent!!! Mine was higher than that, so I definitely wanted more treatment. But that calculator is great. Really helped me with deciding. That website also has calculators for other cancers.
