What are the real side effects of APBI after lumpectomy?

I am a candidate for APBI (accelerated partial breast irradiation) after lumpectomy with sentinel node biopsy done on Jan. 12. Would like to hear from anyone who’s had it and what side effects you had, if any. Radiation oncologist told me side effects are very minimal i e mild soreness and some fatigue but no ‘burns’ or other things associated with longer/full course treatment. Any first hand knowledge/experience shares greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Many patients find APBI to be a well-tolerated treatment option with fewer side effects compared to traditional radiation therapy. While experiences can vary from person to person, connecting with others who have been through similar treatments can provide valuable insights and peace of mind. This community is a great place to hear real experiences from patients who understand what you're going through, so hopefully others will share their APBI journey with you soon.

If cancer comes back again your skin will be harder to heal, because of the radiation.

Cathy P Did this happen to you? If it comes back I’ll probably opt for mastectomy. Thx.

Yes when it came back I had the mastectomy and they put in the expander for reconstruction that was in October. Had leakage that kept coming back because my skin was compromise from the radiation
