Has anybody had the back litissumus reconstruction done? I had the second round of cancer. I opted for expanders and implants. Previous radiation treatment caused one expander/implant to fail. I have one implant and one side flat. I am scheduled for the back flap surgery and wondering how this was for others.

This type of reconstruction surgery can feel overwhelming when you're facing it, especially after already going through so much. Many community members have shared their experiences with latissimus dorsi flap reconstruction and found it helpful to connect with others who understand this journey. Hopefully others who have been through this procedure will share their recovery experiences and tips to help you feel more prepared.

Yes, I had latissimus dorsi flap surger in 2023. Started with lumpectomy, bilateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction with implants which i did not like so I removed then and went with the latissimus. I feel better having only my own tissue in my body. Wjat are you thoughts, feelings, questions?

How did you find recovery was? How long in hospital? How long before you were back to feeling more like yourself? Did you need OT or PT after surgery ..

I went home the same day, the recovery was rough for me only due to having 4 drains, instead of 2 with all of my.otjer surgeries. But I was so happy to get rid of the implants. I have huge scars, but I love my battle wounds. I am stat ge 4 terminal and even before that, I did not care about the scars. I did not need ot or pt, but of course everyone is different. For me personally, I am very happy with the results and up until I got really sick the last few months, I was at the gym lifting weights and doing intense Barre. I just feel much more comfortable having my own tissue as my breats and I did not qualify to use my stomach due to several previous stomach surgeries.

Thank you for your response. The drains are not fun but I have experience with that. I am sorry to hear you have not been well. Cancer stinks. 🙏
