I'm going for consults with surgeon, oncologist and radiologist on the 9th. I was diagnosed with stage 0 DCIS & stage 0 ALS. Aren't both of these non-cancerous at this stage. Couldn't it be closely monitored without any cutting? I'm 62-3 years old & otherwise pretty healthy. I'm not ok with unnecessary surgeries. Help!

These are important questions to discuss with your medical team during your upcoming consultations. While DCIS is considered non-invasive, treatment decisions depend on many individual factors that only your doctors can properly evaluate based on your complete medical picture. Your upcoming appointments with the surgeon, oncologist, and radiologist will give you the opportunity to understand all available options, including active surveillance, and learn about the benefits and risks of each approach. Consider preparing a list of questions beforehand so you can have a thorough discussion about what's right for your specific situation.

I'm 69 years old and was recently diagnosed with DCIS, then, subsequently downgraded to ADH by another medical center. I also had to stop my HRT meds because the DCIS was ER+ and PR+. Stage 0 Low grade. I'm now 8 weeks out without my HRT and the hot flashes and night sweats are bowling me over. How long can I expect these to last? Is there anything I can take for this without the estrogen or progesterone? I'm scheduled for a lumpectomy and oncoplastic reconstructive surgery next week, with the hope that the final pathology will come back as ADH. If it does, then, no more surgeries. If it's DCIS, then I'll go back to the OR and I'm fine with that as well. Any tips for post op recovery?
