I am 6 weeks post-surgery from top lobectomy right lung. Still in lots of pain. I am. Using cooling pads and heat pads 3 times daily. Unfortunately had to return to work because bills don't wait. I am using ibuprofen every 4 hours and muscle relaxer. Anyone know how long pain goes on. They had to open me up because they nicked an artery going in. Spent 15 days in hospital.

Hi Kim, I have had a lobectomy. It was very brutal. I didn’t suffer much after release from hospital, but I was very sick for a few weeks. I was on OxyContin for several years after. And it took about 6 months to get weaned off. I’m much better now and have a new CA in my lung being treated with targeted therapy. I actually feel good!

Recovery timelines after lung lobectomy can vary significantly from person to person, especially when complications require additional surgical steps. Having to return to work while still managing significant pain at 6 weeks post-surgery sounds incredibly challenging, and it's completely understandable to want to know what to expect going forward. Many patients find that discussing their current pain management plan with their surgical team can help ensure they're getting the most effective relief possible during this healing period.
