Did anyone have lumpectomy first for small TNBC tumor?

Yes, I had lumpectomy and lymph node biopsy (which was negative) Had 20 radiation treatments and no chemo as my tumor had just barely moved from DCIS to stage 1. I am coming up on 2 years with checkups every 3 months with oncologist and every 6 months with surgeon. Hope things go well for you. I went to a large teaching hospital for treatment (Vanderbilt). My case went before the tumor board there as it wasn’t clear if chemotherapy was indicated. In essence I got at least 20 “second” opinions from the tumor board , and the clear consensus was no chemotherapy.

Thanks for replying. The thing that scares me the most is the chemotherapy so I am looking for others that just did radiation. Have you found anyone past the 5 year mark that has TNBC and no chemotherapy? Its a hard decision

I don’t know of anyone who didn’t need chemotherapy. There are just so few options for TNBC treatment, as you are finding out. Mine was not from genetics, if yours is, I think from what my oncologist said chemotherapy is definitely needed. Good luck

I only have Biopsy results and they say there will be more info after my surgery pathology. Did you have an MRI before your lumpectomy?

Claudia T I had a TNBC in 2015. I didn't do Radiation or Chemotherapy. I had a lumpectomy and the Sentinel node removed. Chemotherapy is a hard decision and you should know that the side effects of chemo treatment can be long range. It's not a decision to make lightly. Breast Cancer seemed to run in my family (my mother, grandmother, and great aunt). I don't regret my decision. However, ten years later I have TNBC again, the same breast and in the same general area. This time I did chemo first bc the tumor was invasive and was stage IIIB. I stopped chemo after five treatments and had surgery to remove what little remained of the tumor and four lymph nodes. The nodes were all clear. I was tested for all breast cancer genes, I have none. The PET Scan was also clear and a blood test that searched for the tumor DNA came back Negative. I pray you have good results as I did. I also had lumpectomy first for a small tumor, then chemo and radiation. No evidence of disease 2 years later.

I got my pathology back no Invasive cancer in margins or lymph node. Found a few DCIS .5 mm from margin. We may just go back and clean up that margin. Not sure about Chemo I meet with Oncologist on Tuesday

I am 2 1/2 years out with tnbc, I had 4 rounds of Chemo, 2 lymph nodes removed , and lumpectomy, then I did 33 rounds of radiation,5 of which were on the tumor site, the rest on the whole breast!So far everything is still coming back negative! Good luck!

Yes, I had lumpectomy, after having an MRI. Genetic testing was negative. Mine was 9mm, clear margins and negative lymph nodes, and surgeon removed 5 lymph nodes. I was Stage 1B, grade 3 TNBC. Just met with oncologist and she is recommending chemo, 4 rounds, 1 every 3 weeks, and then I will do radiation.

My tumor was 3mm per biopsy preoperative. I did have an MRI and then lumpectomy within a month of diagnosis. That showed the final tumor size of 2.5mm. 3 sentinel lymph nodes were negative and there was no noted LVI (lymphovasular invasion ) I got recommendations for radiation with no chemotherapy from 2 different institutions
