What should I prepare before starting EC chemo?

Hi everyone ❤️ I’m 31 years old and I was recently diagnosed with Stage 1, Grade 3 (fast growing) triple negative breast cancer (TNBC). My tumor is 19 mm. My treatment plan is EC × 4, followed by docetaxel (DTX) × 4, then surgery. I’ll be going through treatment mostly on my own, so I’m feeling a little nervous and would really appreciate advice from anyone who has been through something similar. What do you wish you had prepared or known before starting chemo? Any tips on managing side effects, food, skincare, fatigue, white blood cell injections, or things I should have at home would be really helpful. Thank you ❤️

Preparing for chemo treatment can feel overwhelming, especially when going through it independently, but having a plan can help reduce anxiety and make the process more manageable. Many community members have found it helpful to stock up on comfort items like soft blankets, easy-to-prepare foods, gentle skincare products, and entertainment for rest days, while also creating a support system of friends or family who can assist with errands or meal preparation. The experiences shared by others in this community who have navigated similar treatment paths could provide valuable insights and reassurance during this challenging time.

I have Stage II, Grade 3 with ki67 of 90% TNBC…so extremely aggressive and fast growing. If your WBCs and Neutrophils get really low, they may give you Zarxio injections to stimulate growth. Be sure to take Claritin for bone aches that happen with Zarxio. If you develop neuropathy, like tingling and numbness in your extremities, ask for cold socks and mittens during chemo, and ask your oncologist about GABAPENTIN. Try to eat protein. If you have doubts about your treatment, seek a second opinion. I am undergoing 5 months of chemo before surgery. Ask a lot of questions and advocate for yourself.

I started as TNB, Stage II, Grade 3 with a ki67 of 90%…30% is highly aggressive. I’ve had 12 chemo treatments of Carboplatin, Taxol and Keytruda. I’m about to start second chemo phase with the Red Devil chemo. I had lots of injections to help build WBCs and Neutrophils. If you get these injections, have Claritin to take for resulting bone pain. I also recommend products by Dermavitality, especially made for chemo patients. Make sure you make a list of questions and concerns to discuss with your oncologist every appointment. Ask for help with side effects. I take a neck pillow, soft little blanket and comfy socks to chemo infusion. If you feel your oncologist is not addressing your needs adequately, get a second opinion…totally worth it.
