a day agoI know what I think in my head but my heart is so confused. I was diagnosed with CLL this summer with unmutated IGHV so as far as I understand, it is a slow growing cancer with one unfavorable marker possibly making it more aggressive. good / bad ... What can I say to my adult son who insists I take ivermectin, a horse dewormer medicine. He thinks it is a cure for any cancer and I really don't trust it and want to follow what the doctor says. At the same time, my just as stubborn husband, insists I don't take it. Besides trying to live with my diagnose, I am fighting this battle of opinions.

a day agoFamily pressure about unproven cancer treatments can feel heavy, especially while adjusting to a CLL diagnosis, and it makes sense that this brings up so many mixed feelings. Ivermectin has not been proven to treat cancer, so it can help to invite loved ones to a appointment or share questions with the care team, who can explain which treatments are backed by research and why. Many families find it easier to focus on a shared goal, like supporting the patient through care, and to set gentle boundaries around the topic when emotions run high. Others in the Leukemia community are welcome to share how they have talked with relatives about these disagreements.
