Could a one-time therapy change treatment for advanced ovarian cancer?

Patients with advanced ovarian cancer that comes back or keeps growing after platinum chemotherapy often have very few treatment options, and it has been hard to achieve long-lasting control of the disease. Early results presented at ASCO 2026 from a new experimental treatment called IMA203CD8 are showing encouraging signs that this may change for some patients in the future.

IMA203CD8 is a personalized immune therapy. It uses a patient’s own T cells (a type of immune cell), which are collected, modified in a lab to better recognize cancer, and then given back as a one-time treatment. This therapy targets a protein called PRAME, which is found mostly on cancer cells.

Why these early results are encouraging

In a small group of patients with advanced ovarian cancer who had already gone through several treatments, doctors saw encouraging responses:

  • Tumors shrank in most patients studied
  • About half of the patients had a response (meaning the cancer clearly got smaller)
  • Many patients had disease control, where the cancer stopped growing or slowed down

Importantly, many of these responses were still ongoing when the data were reported. Some lasted up to a year or longer, which is especially meaningful in this stage of cancer, where long-lasting responses are difficult to achieve.
