I was recently diagnosed with multiple myeloma and will be starting chemotherapy soon. I came across information about how chemo can cause swelling in hands and feet, and learned there are actually different types - regular fluid buildup versus hand-foot syndrome - that need different approaches to manage. I'm trying to prepare myself for what might come up during treatment and understand what to expect. I'd love to hear from others who've been through multiple myeloma treatment about their experiences with these side effects. • Did you experience swelling during your chemo, and what did it feel like day to day? • What practical tips helped you manage these symptoms at home? Starting chemotherapy can feel overwhelming, especially when preparing for potential side effects like hand and foot swelling. Both fluid retention and hand-foot syndrome can occur with different chemo medications, and each may require different management strategies that work best when discussed with the care team. Many people in this community have navigated similar challenges and may have helpful tips to share about comfort measures, when to contact their doctors, and practical adjustments that made daily activities easier during treatment.

That's really solid advice about preparing for different types of swelling and working with your care team - I'd also suggest asking them about any specific early warning signs to watch for so you can catch things early and manage them more effectively.

Check with your doctor to see if Lymphatic drainage massage will be helpful. You can go on YouTube and find videos on self lymphatic drainage massage. I was a lmt for 25 years and I did a lot of Lymphatic massage on clients. Now that I have MM and POEMS syndrome. I do this on a regular basis to help the body move lymph along. It helps the swelling and toxins build up.
